# KeyFlow Installation Guide

## Installing

1. Quit your DAW if it's running
2. Navigate to the macOS folder in the downloaded package
3. For Logic Pro, copy `KeyFlow.component` to:
   ```
   /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
   ```
   For FL Studio, copy `KeyFlow.vst3` to:
   ```
   /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3
   ```
   (Create the folders if they don't exist)
4. Open your DAW. Logic Pro checks new plug-ins as it starts; in FL Studio, open
   Options > Manage plugins and click Find installed plugins.

## Using KeyFlow in FL Studio

FL Studio doesn't pass MIDI on from Audio Units, so KeyFlow comes as a VST3 instrument too.
Its own audio is silent: it sends the scale's notes on to the instrument you choose.

1. Add KeyFlow to the Channel rack (it's under Generators) and play or draw notes into it
2. Open KeyFlow's plugin settings (the cog in its window) and set MIDI Output port to a
   number, say 1
3. On the instrument KeyFlow should play, set MIDI Input port to the same number
4. Pick a root, a scale and the keys you want to play it with, and play

To keep it all in one channel, load KeyFlow and the instrument into a Patcher, connect
KeyFlow's event output to the instrument, and still set KeyFlow's MIDI Output port.

## Using KeyFlow in Logic Pro

KeyFlow is a MIDI effect, so it goes in a MIDI FX slot, not with the audio effects:

1. Select a Software Instrument track
2. Click the MIDI FX slot, just above the instrument slot in the channel strip
3. Choose Audio Units > stvdwell > KeyFlow
4. Pick a root, a scale and the keys you want to play it with, and play

Logic records the keys you press and KeyFlow moves them onto the scale as they play back,
so you can change the scale after recording.

## Troubleshooting

- If you see a security warning, open System Settings > Privacy & Security and allow
  KeyFlow, then reopen Logic Pro
- If Logic lists KeyFlow as failed or unavailable, open Logic Pro > Settings > Plug-in
  Manager, select KeyFlow and choose Reset & Rescan Selection
- Ensure your macOS version is 10.15 or later
